Loose black linework on a cream ground. A rounded figure stands with its back to us, centred between double shutters thrown open on both sides. Beyond the frame: blue sky, a crescent moon, scattered speckling. The composition is symmetrical and the figure is small within it — positioned before an opening rather than passing through it. We are given the back of the head, not the face.

Album Prologue
The missing central file is opened. Genesis returns with a title that sounds like rank and a figure who looks anything but secure. Duke is authority rendered as character, loneliness rendered as pageantry. The album stands between the band’s contraction and its new command of scale. It cannot remain absent. Without it, the chronology loses the bridge between survival and dominance.
The case begins behind something already drawn. Lines divide territories, texts, loyalties, and speakers. The witness enters after the boundary exists.
The performer rises through attention and falls through its withdrawal. The crowd appears to grant identity, then proves it was only lending light.
A guide vocal is provisional by definition: a voice meant to lead another voice into place, then disappear. Here the guide claims intimacy and control. Temporary instruction becomes invisible authority.
The isolated viewer commands the machine to restore connection. The screen supplies figures who cannot answer. Repetition simulates relationship while deepening solitude.
Travel returns the album to its opening material. The end is not escape from the lines; it is recognition of the structure that contained the journey from the start.
The missing file changes the whole sequence. Genesis did not leap from uncertainty to Abacab. The band first examined performance, mediation, guidance, and the loneliness of a man surrounded by transmitted voices.
Duke travels. The lines remain. The guide withdraws. The listener turns it on again.
