Why this catalogue is the control case
The form and the subject are the same thing. Parsons was literally a producer and sonic architect — so a catalogue about engineered persuasion is itself an exercise in engineered persuasion. That makes it the series’ control: if the method can be demonstrated by a man building the room, the room is real.
The decisive micro-move on record is Sirius into Eye in the Sky — spectacle resolving into surveillance without a seam.
Motif chains carried
- The eye / observer — The Raven → The Voice → Eye in the Sky → Hawkeye → On Air satellites
- The game / transaction — The Cask of Amontillado → I Robot → The Friendly Card → Money Talks
- The monument / house — Usher → Pyramid → Ammonia Avenue → La Sagrada Família
- Time / collection — Time → Old and Wise → Days Are Numbers → The Time Machine
- Light / false light — Lucifer → Eagle → the same old sun → limelight → Halo
Control contributed: sequence before symbol. Lucifer, Sirius, Apollo, the halo, the serpent and the eye all change function across albums. A recurring image is not a fixed meaning.
